Today we will begin work on the Mythology unit.  During this unit you are responsible for :
  • World Mythology Codex:  You will choose and study the mythology of an ancient culture.  Using the Greek Mythology examples provided, you will explain your culture's major mythological themes (creation stories, gods & godesses, death & afterlife, role of fate, identity, society v. individual, beauty, love, fear, heroic quests, etc).  This will be presented as a classroom wiki entry.
  • Heroic Quest Narrative:  You will write a short story, film, or graphic representation of an original heroic quest that incorporates research about your culture's mythology.  The story is your chance to apply what you understand and have learned about major themes of mythology.  The setting could be culturally historic (ancient Egypt or pre-Columbian America) or modern (think The Lightning Thief, Grimm, or American Gods). This assignment is one of your QT1 Independent Projects!
  • Greek and Roman Mythology: You will be responsible for taking notes on and learning about a variety of Greek and Roman mythological figures.  This work will be done independently, in small groups, and with direct instruction from Mr. Dennis.
  • Mythology Test: Part will be done in-class, part will be take home essay.  The test will cover terms and concepts discussed in class, as well as Greek and Roman mythological characters.
This information will be critical to our work on The Odyssey, which is the next unit.

COMING SOON:  Look for a new Mythology tab on the menu bar above.  As you find new resources, you will have a chance to add those links directly to the blog (which should make the research easier).
